German Accusative Verbs Flashcards (Verben mit Akkusativ)

Most German verbs with one object take the Akkusativ, so this is the default case to know. This deck covers the Akkusativ verbs from the A1 and A2 word lists, the ones you use every day: sehen, kaufen, brauchen, fragen, kennen and their friends. Each card shows the verb in German, and you flip it for the English meaning.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is an accusative verb?
A verb whose direct object is in the Akkusativ case. The object answers Wen? or Was?: "Ich sehe den Hund" (I see the dog). Only the masculine article changes, der to den.
Which verbs are in this deck?
The verbs from the Goethe A1 and A2 lists and the most common 50 verbs that take an Akkusativ object. B1 verbs are left out because nearly all of them are Akkusativ verbs and the deck would double in size.
Why learn accusative verbs as a set?
Because the Dativ verbs are the exception. Once the Akkusativ verbs feel normal, the short Dativ list stands out, and mich versus mir stops being a guess.
Where is the full list with examples?
The German accusative verbs resource page lists every verb in this deck with its conjugation and an example sentence.
