    Most Common German Nouns Flashcards

A small set of nouns does a lot of the work in everyday German, so learning the most common ones first gives you the fastest return. This deck takes the 50 most common German nouns, the words you see again and again in real text and speech, and turns them into flashcards. Each card shows the noun in German, and you flip it to check the English meaning.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Which nouns are on this list?
The deck is built from a frequency list of the most common German nouns: everyday words for time, people, places, and things that appear constantly in real German. Learning these first means you understand more of what you read and hear right away.
Are the nouns shown with their article?
Yes. Each noun comes with its article (der, die, or das), since the gender is part of the word. Learning das Jahr rather than just Jahr means you have the gender right from the start.
How does the deck stay focused on what I do not know?
You rate each card after flipping it. Hard cards come back sooner and easy cards wait longer, so your practice stays on the nouns you have not learned yet. Signed-in users keep their progress between sessions.
Where is the full noun list?
The complete most common German nouns page lists every word with plural forms and example sentences. These flashcards are the practice version of that list.
